Mod ideas for UT 2003 – Heavy Items

Description

This mutator reduces the speed players can move (and the height they can jump) by examining the players inventory for weapons and objects. The rules are as follows:

  • For each weapon the player is carrying the player's speed is reduced by 1%.
  • For each full amount of ammo the player's speed is reduced by 1% (in 0.1% increments).
  • Each item carried (flag, ball, etc) reduced the player's speed by 1%.

Interested Scripters

If you are interested in developing this mod for UT2003 then add your name to the list. Once you start development you should indicate that below (and hopefully include a link to a journal page). Before you start development you should also check this section to see if anyone else has started.

Discussion

ZxAnPhOrIaN: When carrying an item, you should have decreased mobility such as cant look all the way up and down.

Dezro: 1% is a bit low. Also, the ball shouldn't count since the ball carrier is rendered helpless anyway.

ZxAnPhOrIaN: No, the ball should count, cause it has mass!! Also, shields and adreniline should count

ZxAnPhOrIaN: Also, 1% is reasonable, cause if the player has 11 weapons, all ammo maxed out, and has the flag or ball, you will be walking VERY slow!!

EntropicLqd: I deliberately left out the adrenaline and shield. Adrenaline because I prefer to pretend it doeasn't exist (and builds up within the biological system so has no apparent weight), and sheild because it's an energy sheild rather than a real item of equipment. Including shield would be moderately compelling, but 1% every 50 points of shield seems a bit high to me. I'm with Zxan on the speed changes. I did originally think that 2% or 3% would be a reasonable weight but a slight difference in speed will make a massive difference to vulnerability so I set it at 1%. It might sound low ... but you try playing with it against people.

MrFixit: Seems simple enough to me, I have a mute that makes your speed percent depend on your health. What your talking about sounds good, and seems fair enough.
