I love the smell of UnrealEd crashing in the morning. – tarquin
This is a team game. At the start of the game each team is given a 10 letter word to create. The letters that make up the words given to the teams are then spawned randomly around the level.
Words are created by collecting the letters and taking them to a central point on the map where they can be deposited. However, letters must be deposited in the correct order in order to count. If a letter is deposited out of order it simply respawns randomly on the map.
Players collect letters by simply runnnig over them. A player can only carry one letter at a time, and may carry any letter they wish, even if it's not in the word they need. Players can also drop letters whenever they want. If a letter is dropped into a "pain zone" or not picked up after 60 seconds it will respawn in a random location. Players drop letters when they are killed.
The currently deposited letters (and required ones) will be displayed on the player's HUD. Letters will be lit as they are collected.
The following features are also supported:
- Enable anagram mode - So the word is presented as an anagram to each team that they then have to solve.
- Length of word - from 8 to 12 (are there enough 12 letter words?)
- Time limit - Sets the time limit for the game. The winning team is then the one with the most letters in their word.
- Penalise out of order drops. If this option is enabled and a player deposits a letter out of order then the players team will lose one of their currently deposited letter (if any). If they have no letters deposited then any letters any players within the team are carrying will respawn randomly around the level.
I see no obvious reason not to have up to four teams playing this game. If this was the case then the length of the words may need to be shortened to keep the network bandwidth down.
If you are interested in developing this mod for UT2003 then add your name to the list. Once you start development you should indicate that below (and hopefully include a link to a journal page). Before you start development you should also check this section to see if anyone else has started.
EntropicLqd: The mod could probably use BR maps and use the ball spawn point as the "deposit point".
Birelli: Yeah, and that would also make it a type of "King of the hill" mod, because if you can completely control the deposit point, you can keep your opponent from getting any letters in, and even use ones they drop when you "incercept" them.
Anonymous: Alternatively, you could make a particular letter required by both players but in quantity enough that one team won't get one. Then allow assaults on other bases to steal the last letter of their word.
