Mod ideas for UT 2003 – Guns and Shields (aka I need a better name)

Description[edit]

Far the in the future arena combat has become a specator sport. Gladiators armed with an energy shield and a laser pistol fight for supremacy in a no holds barred scrap.

The maps have ammunition (the shield and gun share ammo), and armour. All players start with a laser gun and an energy shield. The primary fire button is used to fire the laser gun, and the secondary fire is used to pop up the energy shield. The shield drains energy with use, but if enemy fire is blocked by the shield then it converts the blast into additional energy, slowing the drain.

The laser blasts move reasonably slowly (slower than a rocket probaby) but do a significant amount of damage (3 hits and you are toast). The shield should drain relatively quickly.

The winner is simply the last person left alive.

This style of play may also be cool for CTF, DD, and BR - who knows. It may also benefit from different types of weapons - pistol, heavy blaster thingy, and ammo absorber. The weapon and game dynamic should be kept fairly simply. The two changes critical to the gameplay are the "offhand shield", and the fact that none of the weapons should do any splash damage.
