Mod ideas for UT 2003 – Semigib Onslaught

Description[edit]

It bothers me that there is no instagib mode for Onslaught. However, the reasons for disallowing an IG rifle are valid. This mutator attempts to create a balanced instagib style game while conceding to the gametypes balance requirements.

Essentially this means that there is no true IG mode for Onslaught. However it may be possible to get closer than it is already. The following rules will apply.

  • The link gun will be tweaked such that primary fire is an IG beam against people and a normal Shock Rifle against everything else.
  • The link gun secondary fire will remain the same - both im terms of function and damage.
  • The vehicle's weaponry will remain unchanged.
  • All players will start with an Avril and some ammo. Probably two - three rockets.

Given that standard IG rifles have infinite ammo I'm left with a choice. Do I keep the ammo limitation on the IG element (link primary fire), or, do I give the players infinite ammo for all the weapons they are carrying. Tis an interesting one. At the moment I'm favouring ammo limitations.

Interested Scripters[edit]

If you are interested in developing this mod for UT2003 then add your name to the list. Once you start development you should indicate that below (and hopefully include a link to a journal page). Before you start development you should also check this section to see if anyone else has started.

Enigmatic: If no one else has done anything with this, I will. Starting a journal here: Developer Journals/Enigmatic

Enigmatic: I may create a version 2 if the notion strikes me than toggles infinate ammo on. Other than that, I think it's pretty solid

Enigmatic: OK, infinate ammo toggle & bot support has been added. I removed the above link since it's the outdated version. Here's the new thing: http://enigmatic.shackspace.com/ut2k4/OnsInstagib.zip

Discussion[edit]

EntropicLqd: Having played the demo even I have to admit that UT2004 is way better than UT2003. Should I elect to buy the game I'll give this mod a crack. Should take all of 30 minutes to create.
